Benefits of a Dog-Friendly Workplace (+ Link to Download Our Pet Policy!)

Nobody has enjoyed the shift to remote work more than dogs. The long, lonely days at home are a distant memory after a year of spending all day at their owners’ sides.

As dog moms ourselves, we’ve certainly enjoyed co-working with our pups, Athena and Hanna. So we’re keenly aware that, as some companies transition back to an office environment, many employees and their pets will be faced with a difficult transition. Or will they...?

Dog-friendly offices were fairly common before the pandemic, and early trends show that they’ll be even more common going forward, with over half of CEOs surveyed saying they’ll allow dogs in the office post-pandemic. This will go a long way toward easing the return-to-work jitters, since 57% of pet owners say they’ll be more satisfied returning to the office if they can bring their pets along with them. Not to mention, offering this fringe benefit can help attract top talent while boosting morale and fostering connection among existing employees.

However, company leaders also have to make sure to limit potential disruptions or distractions that may arise from adding dogs to the mix. So if you’re one of the many companies planning to accommodate pets in the workplace, we recommend drafting a policy with your team’s involvement to proactively address concerns and build buy-in for your proposed process. If you set up a clear process that you can follow consistently, you can avoid uncomfortable situations down the line, like having to ask an employee to keep their dog home for incessant barking.

When it comes to creating new policies, we know it can be difficult to know where to begin, so we put together a sample dog policy to give you a solid place to start! You can get our customizable dog policy right away by signing up for our emails below.
