5 Questions to Ask Employees Before Open Enrollment

The open enrollment period is fast approaching. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important for companies to re-think the types of benefits they offer in order to stay competitive and support their teams in a mostly remote work environment.  We’re seeing companies get creative and offer new benefits, such as grocery stipends, pet maternity/paternity leave, childcare subsidies, and mental health hours.

As you approach your benefit renewal, consider surveying your employees on what benefits are (or would be) most impactful to them. Below are six questions you can ask your employees. Be sure to tailor the questions to meet the needs of your company.

  1. I am satisfied with the benefits package that my company offers.*

  2. I have a clear understanding of our benefits programs and packages.*

  3. I am satisfied with my health insurance through [Healthcare Provider].*

  4. If we were able to add more benefits, what benefits would you most like to see us offer?**
    - Alternate Health Plans (HSAs or HMOs)
    - FSA
    - Short-Term and/or Long-Term Disability
    - Life Insurance
    - Wellness Stipend or Program
    - Tuition Reimbursement, Student Loan Repayment, or Professional Development Stipend
    - Retirement Benefits
    - Childcare Benefits

  5. Do you have any additional comments or suggestions regarding our benefits? Is there anything else you’d like us to know as we consider our options for open enrollment?***
